Origin: France ( Varages)
Condition: Some pieces very good and a few with chips and fading.
This multi piece set of faience dishes is priced separately and some have already sold. Pasta bowls, platters, dinner plates, salad plates, wine coasters, small butter dishes and a covered tureen are in the set. The earthenware ceramics were made in the famous Varages factory in the South of France around 1930 and depict brown painted pastoral scenes with Occitan proverbs on the yellow/cream background. These truly Provencal pieces were found in Pierre's shop in Aubagne where he had them displayed on the 1830's walnut table also acquired for our collection. Pierre went to his desk and pulled out a catalog for the Pottery Museum in Marseilles and showed us the photograph of this pattern of dishes currently on display in the museum. Each piece has a unique scene and most also have a proverb written in Occitan, the original language of the region. These are special pieces to display or to set on your table.
